Viktoria Tabone
A Documentation of Familial Grief in Rural Poland: The remains of the funeral culture of yore
Grief appeared in various forms throughout Viktoria’s upbringing. The need to give pain a shape led her to document the expressions of mourning that were introduced to her by her mother and the side of her family rooted in rural Poland. A triptych composed of three heavy wooden panels acts as a central piece, depicting a visual narrative of folkloric beliefs and traditional customs; rituals of mourning that continue to resonate between generations, suspended between past and present. Beneath the triptych, a screen shows a video that concludes the broader exploration. This is the most intimate element of the project as it reflects a personal perspective.
