The Snow Machine

Hannah Willmott

The Snow Machine is an animated video in which kinetic movements and mechanical sounds come together to create a mesmerising yet unsettling collage. This fictitious yet familiar world highlights the surreal nature of the snow industry. Using manipulated footage of the abandoned Super Saint Bernard ski resort, exaggerate themes of artificial landscapes, and the role of snow enthusiasts as puppets of an industry reluctant to acknowledge the increasingly fragile state of winter conditions. The sense of unease is heightened through relentless layering and escalation—portraying a descent into madness. As snow quietly melts, the industry grinds on to sustain its illusion—reminding us that these fragile «ecosystems» are anything but silent.
