Getroffen von Vergänglichkeit
No sooner is a design brought into the world than its decline begins. Control is relinquished, and natural change takes its course. In a weather simulation, water and UV light act on printed surfaces: layers wash out, underlying shapes emerge, and areas of color fade into multi-layered geometries. The apparatus allows certain parameters to be controlled—and yet the unpredictable has a visible influence. The work is based on countless observations of weathered graphic design objects. In a philosophical examination of the aesthetics of transience, the question is asked how we interpret signs of aging—and whether design can also take its own transformation into account.
