Silvia Gfeller – Spuren setzen

Lea Neuenschwander

In 1964, Switzerland's first female typesetter was trained. Her father had to fight hard to get permission for her to start the training. Swiss television reported on this for two minutes. Apart from this report, there does not seem to be much documentation about female typesetters in Switzerland in the archives.

This work takes up the television report and spins its story further with the help of fiction, in the spirit of “critical fabulation.” Using various artifacts, the protagonist tells her own story in a time of upheaval, marked by the women's movement and profound technological changes. It is an attempt to fill the gap in the archives and history with visual storytelling.
